Down into the Susa Valley

I left the encampment of protesters against TAV early in the morning, and I was in Chiomonte before 6am

The first of many 'No TAV' flags I would see that day, as I walked, alone again, down from the Alps and into the Susa Valley.

After painting over the French version, which I used in Morocco and in France, I was ready for Italy

Just beyond Susa, this fellow asked what my walk was all about. He said he had some connection with the local newspaper. By the time I arrived in Avigliani at day's end, I'd been interviewed twice at the side of the road. I made page 7 of the Avigliani newspaper, 'Lunanuova.' I'm famous!

After a 40k day, I arrived in Avigliana. My host, Luisa, who is a doctor for 'Doctors Without Borders', with her father and brother.

What this is all about

I am a Quaker whose intention was to walk from Portugal to Egypt for peace.

Between November, 2011 and January, 2013, I walked some 5500 kilometers from Portugal to Istanbul, Turkey. I hitchhiked from Istanbul to Iskenderun, Turkey, then caught a ship to Haifa, Israel, where I was denied entry. I continued with the ship to Port Said, Egypt, where I began walking once again, to Cairo, and to the Giza pyramids. I then took a bus to Dahab, then Taba, Sinai, to try to enter Israel again. Once again I was denied entry. I'm in Dahab now, ready to leave Egypt and end this walk.
While I have made most of the walk alone, I have also walked with others; with some for an hour or two, with others for days or even months; most notably with my daughter, Olivia, and with a friend at the time, Inge.
