A good end cannot sanctify evil means; nor must we ever do evil, that good may come of it... We are too ready to retaliate, rather than forgive... And yet we could hurt no man that we believe loves us. Let us try then what love will do: for if men did once see we love them, we should soon find they would not harm us. Force may subdue, but Love gains: and he that forgives first, wins the laurel.
William Penn

Be patterns, be examples in all countries, places, islands, nations wherever you come; that your carriage and life may preach among all sorts of people, and to them; then you will come to walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in everyone...
George Fox

Into Slovenia!

Leslie and friend, Daniela, who walked with me for a bit on the way out of Gradisca

One more Cold War relic

A supporter on the way to Slovenia

The Isonzo River

A casual stroll through the 'Iron Curtain' of old

My first hosts in a new world (for me), Eastern Europe.  Roman and Marija on the left, their daughter Andreja and son-in-law Matija on the right. Roman and Marija live in Nova Gorica, about 100 meters from the border. Their home is located in   an area that was once patrolled by soldiers who guarded the line separating the East and the West. Roman and I were both once in the military; Roman in the Yugoslavian army, and I was in the US Navy. We were Cold War adversaries back then.
